This Whaler sports bulletin includes updates on the boys soccer team after their tie against Barnstable, one of the top programs in the Cape & Islands, the golf team after a shooting 234 Miacomet Golf, the girls’ soccer team after a strong victory, the cross country team after their second victory as many meet to start their season, and the volleyball team.

Diaz Brothers Help Soccer Boys Get a Tie

The boys soccer team hosted the Barnstable Red Hawks on Tuesday and tied them 2-2. Jose Diaz and Anderson Diaz were responsible for the two goals scored by Nantucket, who trailed 2-0 at halftime before making an impressive comeback.

Barnstable came out strong and scored their goals 23 minutes and 10 minutes into the first half. Nantucket junior guard Alex Ivilov was fierce in net and made several key saves to keep his team within striking distance heading into the second half.

The Whalers are now 1-0-3 to start their season and will look to build on this encouraging performance when they host St. John Paul II Lions at 3:30 pm on Thursday, September 19.

Golf Beats Sturgis East, Shoots 234

The Whaler golf team had another strong day at Miacomet Golf Course Tuesday afternoon – beating the Sturgis East Storm 234-281. They were led by David Boulter, who shot 36, David Foley who shot 38, and TQ Scarlett who shot 39.

The performance was a big win for Nantucket after they lost to the Cape’s top team, the Nauset Warriors, 235-266 on Monday at Miacomet. Nantucket is now 4-2 on the season. They will try to get their fifth win on Wednesday, September 18th when they go on the road to face the Monomoy Sharks at 3:30 pm They will be playing golf at Cranberry Valley.

Girls Soccer Soccer Shuts Out Barnstable

The girls soccer team was on the road Tuesday afternoon against the Barnstable Red Hawks. Despite a slow start, head coach Doug LeBrecht said his team settled in and ended up beating the Red Hawks 5-0.

Senior captain Adney Brannigan, as usual, led the way offensively with three goals. Freshman Harper LeBrecht and junior Myah Johnson each had one goal in the game.

The Whalers are now 3-0-2 on the season and will look to remain undefeated when they head to the Cape to face St. John Paul II on Thursday, September 19 at 4 p.m. The Whalers tied SJP 3-3 on September 14. the island in their first game.

Cross Country Beats Monomoy

The cross country team was at Gardner Farm on Tuesday afternoon to take part in their second meet of the season against the Monomoy Sharks. The Whalers got a narrow 27-28 victory over the Sharks, and were led by Rory Murray (19:04) and Dorian Manov (19:59).

Volleyball Lost 3-1 to Falmouth

The Whaler volleyball team lost to the Falmouth Clippers Monday afternoon 3-1, dropping their record to 1-4 this season. The groups were as follows.

Set Another: 21-25 Falmouth

Put two: 25-22 Nantucket

Place Three: 16-25 Falmouth

Set Four: 16-25 Falmouth

“It’s coming together and there’s a lot of good alignment,” Whaler head coach Makaila Lyons said. “We know we can beat them because we beat them in a set, it’s about being able to push more than the mind. stop when we’re down. When we’re down a certain amount, they just get in their heads. I know it’s hard more, but not physically. We are physically there and we have everything we need. The feeling was very good today , eight, etc. It sounds like a million, but it’s not.

The volleyball team will host the Barnstable Red Hawks at 4 p.m

The golf club will be on the road facing Monomoy at 3:30 p.m

The field hockey team will be on the road facing Nauset at 4pm

The golf club will be on the road across from Cape Cod Academy at 3:30 pm

The boys soccer team will be home facing St. John Paul II at 3:30 pm

The girls soccer team will be on the road facing St. John Paul II at four o’clock in the evening
